The Ecology Center in the United States has revealed that a new study shows the chemicals used to create that new car smell have been linked in the past to cancer, liver toxicity and even birth defects.
200 new models were tested in the study and show that the flame retardant bromine is prominent in car assembly. Chlorine and lead are also used in the plastics of a car, as well as arsenic, mercury, nickel, and copper.
The Ecology Center has published their list of cars using these chemicals online. They also recommend to not park in the sun, as the chemicals are released under heat, and "before driving on a warm day, first open the windows and doors to ventilate…"
